This here watch, it’s called a Speedmaster, I reckon. Fancy name for somethin’ that tells time. And it’s got a date thingy on it, too. Says “OMEGA” on it big as day. They call it a Speedmaster Date, I heard someone say. Important to get that right if you’re lookin’ for one of these, I guess, especially for these search engines.

Now, this one fella was askin’ how to set the date on this here OMEGA Speedmaster Date. It ain’t like them old clocks we used to have. Gotta be careful with it, I suppose. Some of these watches are real old, like from the 1980s, I heard. One was called a “Chronograph” somethin’ or other. Copper Cal 863. Sounded complicated to me. This Speedmaster Date is easier, I think. These young folks and their fancy gadgets…

Someone said somethin’ about pullin’ out the crown. Not like a king’s crown, but a little knob on the side. Gotta pull it out just right, they said. Then you can turn it. One way for windin’, other way for settin’ the time. It’s like them wind-up toys, but more delicate, you see. If the crown thing is screwed down, gotta unscrew it first. Turn it the wrong way, like openin’ a jar. Then it pops out, they said. Then you can wind it, like them old music boxes.

To change the Speedmaster Date, you gotta turn and turn that little crown. Round and round it goes. Makes the hands go ’round the clock face. Gotta do it after 12 in the afternoon, though, if you want the date to change at night. Otherwise, it’ll change in the daytime, and that ain’t right. It’s like plantin’ seeds – gotta do it at the right time or they won’t grow proper.

And there’s these little numbers on the watch, too. Serial numbers, they call ’em. Like a secret code, I reckon. Each watch got its own number. Tells you when it was made, I suppose. Keeps track of ’em all. Like brandin’ cattle, but with tiny numbers you can barely see. You gotta look real close. This OMEGA Speedmaster Date, it’s got numbers, too. All of ’em do, I think.

There are a few places you can find these watches. Some names I heard was “Catawiki” and “Chrono24,” and somethin’ called “Wristler.” Sound fancy, don’t they? I reckon they cost a pretty penny, too. Not like buyin’ a bag of flour at the general store. More like buyin’ a whole cow. This whole Speedmaster Date thing is big business, I reckon.

They say these Speedmaster watches got somethin’ to do with car racin’. Back in the ’50s, I think. Folks were crazy about them fast cars. Zoomin’ around the track. This watch was made for that, I suppose. To time the races, maybe. Don’t know why anyone needs to know how fast they’re goin’, but that’s what they used it for. Times were different, that’s for sure.

If you’re gonna get one of these OMEGA Speedmaster Date watches, gotta make sure it’s the real deal. Lots of fake stuff out there, they say. Gotta watch out for them signs. Like checkin’ if a hen’s eggs are fresh. Gotta look close.

  • See if it’s made of cheap stuff. The real ones ain’t made of tin, I can tell you that much.
  • Look at the numbers and writin’ on the face. If it’s all crooked and messy, somethin’ ain’t right.
  • Make sure them serial numbers are there. If they’re missin’, it’s probably a fake. Like a cow with no brand.
  • And it should feel smooth, not rough like a rusty old nail.

This one here is a Speedmaster Date ref 38133001. Steel and black, like a beetle. Don’t know why that matters, but that’s what they said. It is a real OMEGA Speedmaster Date. Just remember that name. Important name. That’s what everyone is lookin’ for these days, I guess. Important for them computers to find it, too.

Well, I reckon that’s all I know about this here OMEGA Speedmaster Date watch. It’s a fancy thing, that’s for sure. Not somethin’ I’d wear out in the fields, but I suppose it’s good for them that like that sort of thing. Just remember to set the date right, and don’t get fooled by a fake. And be careful with that crown thingy. It ain’t a toy, you know. It is a real Speedmaster Date.
