Next up was the movement. Now, I’m no watchmaker, so I wasn’t about to try and build one of those from scratch. I compared a few options and finally settled on one that seemed reliable enough.
The dial was a bit trickier. I wanted to get that same sleek, black look as the original, but I didn’t have any fancy tools or materials. So, I got creative. I found some black cardstock and carefully cut it to the right size. Then, I printed out some simple, tapered hour markers and hands, just like the ones on the 5227G-010. I glued them onto the cardstock, and voila, I had myself a makeshift dial! I know, I know, it’s not exactly high-end, but hey, it works!
Putting it all together was the most nerve-wracking part. I carefully placed the movement inside the case, attached the dial, and then the hands. I made sure everything was lined up properly and that the hands could move freely. Then, I attached the strap, and… it was done! My very own, homemade Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227G-010! Sure, it is not make from precious metal like the original.
The Final Result
Now, I’m not gonna lie, it’s not perfect. It doesn’t have that same luxurious feel as a real Patek Philippe, and it’s definitely not something I’d wear to a fancy event. But, it’s got that same basic look, and it tells the time, so I’m pretty happy with it. Plus, it was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way.
