Oh boy, let me tell you about this little project I got myself into. I decided I wanted to remake a PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, the classic style. It’s a timeless piece, you know? I’ve always admired it, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
So, first things first, I had to gather my materials. I did some digging around and found out that the original bag is made of this Saffiano leather. I went on a hunt, I went to every fabric and leather store in town, to find something similar. After a few days, I finally found a decent Saffiano-like leather that would do the trick. It wasn’t easy, but I managed to get my hands on enough to make the bag.
Next up, I needed to figure out the dimensions and the pattern. I stared at pictures of the bag, trying to estimate the size. I measured and I sketched, and after a few attempts, I had a rough pattern. It looked about right, maybe a tad bigger than the original, but close enough.

- Sewing the pieces together was a whole other challenge.
- I broke a few needles, but I pushed through.
The inner lining was a bit tricky, too. I wanted something that would complement the outer leather, so I went with a smooth fabric. I cut and I sewed, making sure everything lined up properly. I spent hours on this part alone, making sure every stitch was perfect. It was tedious work, but I wanted it to look good.
Then came the hardware. I found some buckles and a zipper that looked pretty similar to the ones on the real Prada bag. I attached them to the bag, making sure they were secure and functional. Attaching the zipper was a bit of a pain, but I got it done.
After what felt like forever, I finally finished sewing all the pieces together. I took a step back to admire my work, and I have to say, I was pretty impressed with myself. It looked like a decent replica of the Prada Galleria bag. It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were a few imperfections here and there, but overall, I was happy with how it turned out. My wife even praised me for my excellent skills.
Final Touches
I added a few finishing touches, like a little pocket on the inside and a strap to make it a crossbody bag. I wore it out a few times, and I got a few compliments on it, which was a nice bonus.
All in all, it was a fun little project. It was definitely challenging at times, but it was worth it in the end. I learned a lot about bag making, and I got a new bag out of it. It’s not a real Prada, but it’s my Prada, and I’m proud of it.
