Okay, so I decided to remake that Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag, the real one, not some cheap copy. First, I got to know what this “Saffiano” leather is.
It turns out, it’s not the same as full-grain leather. Saffiano is genuine leather, but it’s treated and embossed, unlike full-grain. Full-grain can be either chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned, and the thickness varies. But this Saffiano, it doesn’t develop a patina over time, it keeps its look. The dimensions I’m aiming for are 18 cm x 22 cm x 6 cm.
Then, I start to look into the bag itself. The Galleria bag, they call it a “neo-classic,” an “heirloom in the making.” Sounds fancy, huh? Started in 2007, and they keep reinventing it. Named after Prada’s historic flagship store, so it’s got some history to it.
I start sketching, trying to get the details right. It’s supposed to have a rectangular shape with rounded corners. And the words “Prada Milano” are featured on it, and sometimes it also says “Made in Italy.” I’m keeping all that in mind.
Then I cut the leather. This part is tricky, gotta be precise. I use the Saffiano leather, treated and embossed, just like the original. It’s not as thick as some other leathers, but it’s got this unique texture. It feels sturdy and should hold its shape well.
Now, I start assembling the bag. Sewing the pieces together, I use strong thread, gotta make sure this thing lasts. Attach the handles, and add the inner lining. This part takes time, gotta be careful with the stitches, keep them even and tight. I’m no expert, but I’m learning.
Finally, I add the finishing touches. The Prada logo, the “Prada Milano” plaque. This is what makes it look like a real Prada bag. It’s all in the details, you know? And there you have it, my remake of the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it.
This whole process, it made me appreciate the craftsmanship of these luxury bags. There’s a lot of work that goes into them. It’s not just about the brand name, it’s about the quality of the materials, the design, the details. It made me think twice about how these things are made.
This Prada bag, it’s something else. And classics, they always have a story. This one’s got mine now, too.
